Colleges
The Phoenix Center is committed to supporting SC colleges and universities in their effort to reduce the negative health and safety consequences of student alcohol and other drug use. The Phoenix Center can assist colleges in developing strategic plans that promote healthy students and safe environments on campus and in their surrounding communities. We can also assist college health professionals in assessing and treating students who may be experiencing problems resulting from alcohol or other drug use.
In the fall of 2003, The SC Statewide Initiative on College Drinking was established to facilitate a statewide effort to address college alcohol issues on SC campuses and in college towns. This Initiative, housed at The Phoenix Center strives to advance the strategic college alcohol risk reduction program in South Carolina.
Program objectives include:
- Promotion of alcohol-free social, recreational, extracurricular, and public service options
- Creating health-promoting normative environments
- Limiting alcohol availability
- Restricting the marketing and promotion of alcoholic beverages both on and off campus
- Increasing the development and enforcement of campus policies and state and local laws
